BOTOX 101
Overview
Neuromodulator treatments are designed to put your muscles in “time-out.” As we express and move our facial muscles, lines are created in the skin, and you may look angry or tired while your muscles are working overtime. When injected directly into the targeted muscle, a neuromodulator will cause it to relax. While you are still able to make expressions and look natural, the muscles are not able to make the movements that contribute to fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment is quick, very comfortable, and leaves patients looking and feeling brighter and more youthful.
What to Expect
- Clean skin is injected with small amounts of neuromodulator into the areas of excessive motion, such as the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes.
- You can expect minimal downtime following this treatment and you should be able to return to work or your daily activities immediately. It is important to note that whenever a needle is placed in the skin there is always a risk of a bruise, though we take all possible precautions to prevent this.
- Following treatment, you will be asked to use the muscle regularly for the next hour to help the product bind more quickly.
- Botox does not work instantly! You will feel the muscles start to respond over the next few days, but you will not see the final results for two weeks!
- Two weeks after treatment, a board-certified dermatologist will evaluate your results and tweak them as needed.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
- Patients prone to bruising are encouraged to take precautions such as avoiding blood thinners. Adding an arnica supplementation prior to treatment may be recommended.
- No other preparation is required.

Dr. Weishar Shares Her Botox Tips on Fox News
Overview of Botox at Springhouse Dermatology & Aesthetics
Botox is a substance that blocks neurons, the type of cell that makes up our nervous system, from sending signals to each other. By injecting tiny controlled amounts of Botox into a targeted area, the substance prevents muscles from contracting and further producing aging lines and wrinkles. Botox and other related products are safe and effective tools that allow us to prevent the signs of aging before they become permanent.
While Botox injections are fairly well established, first pioneered for cosmetic use in the late 1980s, it’s important to choose a doctor who practices modern injection techniques. Dr. Weishar uses advanced micro-injection techniques to produce a refreshed and natural look, and prevent the frozen appearance associated with older injection methods.
Candidates for Botox in Philadelphia
As this procedure is meant to address age-related wrinkles and fine lines from forming, our patients tend to be men and women in their 30’s and 40’s who want to maintain a more youthful or refreshed look before permanent age lines set in.
Botox in Montgomery County is commonly used to minimize lines and wrinkles in the following areas:
- Eyebrow
- Forehead
- Upper eyelids
- Lip area
- Neck
- Jowls
Dr. Weishar evaluates each patient’s anatomy to decide the appropriate dose of medication that will achieve the best result. Each patient has different needs so the number of units and the location of the injection sites are customized to optimize individual treatment plans. The ability to do this stems from years of experience and advanced training only available to board-certified dermatologists.
Results and Recovery
Injections are non-invasive, so patients can expect to return to their normal daily activities immediately following their appointment. In some cases, a topical anesthetic will be applied before the injection but this is usually unnecessary.
Risks Associated With Botox
Side effects of Botox in Philadelphia are typically minimal and short-lived. However, some of the most common ones include:

Dr. Weishar books a second consultation with each of her patients after two weeks. This allows her to make minor adjustments if deemed necessary.

FAQ
How long does Botox last?
Botox typically lasts anywhere between three and six months. However, this does depend on the area being treated and your age. Once the muscles start contracting again, wrinkles will reappear. As a result, you will need to undergo further treatment. As the muscles become less active, you may find that you require fewer treatments as wrinkles will not be as severe.
When should you start getting Botox?
Men and women often start getting Botox in their mid-30s to early 40s. However, anyone over the age of 21 can get Botox. During your first consultation, Dr. Weishar will tell you honestly whether you are a good candidate for Botox. If she believes you would benefit from a less invasive treatment option, she will discuss this further with you so that you can make an informed decision.
Which is best, Botox or fillers?
Botox and dermal fillers are completely different products. While they are both injected into the skin, Botox works by stopping the muscles from contracting. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, contain ingredients that make your face look plumper. They are typically used to add fullness to the lips, around the mouth, and the cheeks.
How much does Botox cost?
The cost of Botox varies from one clinic to another. Moreover, the cost of this treatment option varies depending on your location. A single unit of Botox ranges between $10 and $20. To treat forehead lines, you can expect to pay between $300 and $700 per session. During your initial consultation, Dr. Weishar will give you a full outline of the procedure and the cost of your treatment at Springhouse Dermatology.
