The weekdays are filled with all things work, life and most of the time, stress, which is why we have the weekends! Now, to take full advantage of your two-day break, a weekend getaway is highly recommended. Wherever you choose to venture off to, the choice is in your hands but keep in mind minimal packing is necessary and by no means is that an easy task, especially when you are all tuned into a daily skincare routine that requires more than just a few items. To make sense of what products you should prioritize bringing along your journey, Haute Beauty gave Haute Beauty experts a scenario to see what they had to say. Here it is, along with their answers:
You’re packing for a weekend getaway and you can only fit a few items in your cosmetic bag. What are the three things you must pack and why? The destination is your choice, snow, rain or shine. The decision is yours!
One of my favorite activities is skiing, especially since I live in Miami and to add, it allows me to be in touch with nature for a few hours without my phone. I also enjoy that my kids do the same, making for some quality time as a family!
The three items that I would select would be a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen. Just because you are in the snow does not prevent you from getting sun exposure. However, the sun’s reflection from the snow increases exposure, and you must be extra careful in applying and reapplying (every two hours, you can use powder and sprays).
The second item would be a hyaluronic acid-based cream to capture extra moisture, allowing my skin to rehydrate from the dryness I am experiencing from the cold. It also works to repair the skin barrier.
And the last would be a vitamin C serum to protect me from the sun and free radicals. This antioxidant works to prevent sun damage and correct pigmentation.
One of my favorite things to do with my family is to travel to a sun, sea and sand destination. As a family of four, it is no easy task to pack and take all the skincare needs for both adults and kids.
Number one on my packing list is taking enough sunscreen for all. The rule of thumb is to apply a shot glass (two tablespoons) of sunscreen to the face and body and reapply every two hours to protect yourself from UV rays best. Now, that is a lot of sunscreen!
After a day of sun and sand, my skin has taken a beating and needs some barrier repair. Here enters the hyaluronic acid moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid has many benefits, including increasing the skin’s moisture and hydration, collagen and elasticity, reducing inflammation and soothing irritation from the day’s vacation events.
Last but not least, for the days leading up to vacation, I am sure not to skip the antioxidants. Applying vitamin C serum once or twice a day to my skin can help combat free radicals and repair my skin during the day and night. It is an essential part of my pre and post-vacation regimen. For those prone to hyperpigmentation from UV rays, vitamin C also helps to prevent hyperpigmentation and brown spots, even skin tone, and help you keep that glow!
No matter where I am going, I always bring these three items. To remove all my makeup gently, I bring Micellar water, the Isdin brand is a favorite. Included in the trio is a moisturizer to hydrate my dry skin. If I am headed to a warm, humid climate, I like to use a hyaluronic-based product like Neutrogena Hydro Boost. For colder or dryer climates, I love the face oil from Maya Chia called The Super Couple, which contains Astaxanthin. This antioxidant is five times more powerful than vitamin C.
And then, of course, I take my daily sunscreen! This sheer tinted zinc formula with an SPF 50 works as a light foundation. I love our SD Protect, which we sell at Springhouse Dermatology and Aeshetics. I also use La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral tinted sunscreen, SPF 50, a very light and pure mineral product.
I am off to my routine summer island hopping in Croatia and these are the three skincare items I could not travel without:
Vitamin C serum is essential because vitamin C is an antioxidant that protects the skin from environmental factors and sun damage all while helping the skin repair from previous sun damage. For this reason, I apply it in the morning before applying sunscreen and in the evening before moisturizer.
Segwaying into sunscreen, I always apply it in the morning for at least 15 minutes before going out in the sun. This is put on top of the vitamin C serum and is reapplied every two to three hours. The third item is always a moisturizer. It is very important to keep the skin barrier healthy at any time of the year, regardless of the season. I apply it mainly at night in the warmer months and the twice-daily during the wintertime.
