Acne-Prone Facials 101

101 - Ovrview

Acne is a skin condition that arises when our pores get clogged by oily secretions. These clogged pores develop into pimples. In more severe cases, they develop into lumps below the skin’s surface that can cause irritation and possible infection. This is commonly referred to as cystic acne. We treat all types of acne conditions through a thorough evaluation to determine the cause and most appropriate treatment including prescription medications, medical-grade skincare, and treatments such as acne-prone facials to help jumpstart your regimen.
101 - What to Expect

What to Expect

  • A medical appointment can be made with one of the providers at Springhouse Dermatology. During this visit, we review your complete medical history, previous treatments, or therapies and determine an individualized treatment plan to address your acne.
  • We will continue to follow up with you on a schedule determined by your provider to follow your progress while on prescription medications and medical-grade skincare to make sure your treatment plan remains appropriate and provides optimal results without adverse effects.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • We recommend coming in without heavy makeup on.
  • We do want you to continue using any prescribed topicals up until the day of your appointment and may make adjustments for your post-care if we need to post-treatment.
  • You may be slightly red if extractions were performed and those could look red or leave little scabs that could last a few days.
  • You may feel tight or dry the few days after the treatment and we will make adjustments to your home care regimen to make sure you are hydrating/moisturizing the skin as needed.

  • Begins with a double cleanse, for powerful cleansing of debris that clogs your pores.
  • Next, diamond tip microdermabrasion dermal infusion exfoliates and delivers clarifying ingredients deep into the skin. *Pharmaceutical grade AHA or BHA peel solution is also an option.
  • Then, manual extractions are performed to alleviate stubborn congestion and unclog whiteheads and blackheads.
  • Following extractions, an antiseptic/antibacterial post-extraction solution is applied to bring the skin back to a normal pH and to aid in preventing post-facial breakouts.
  • Our LED facial, a High-frequency current may also be applied to the extraction area to kill bacteria, calm the skin, and accelerate healing.
  • Finally, A hydrating, calming serum is then applied to the skin followed by a sterile hydrating bio-cellulose soothing mask to create a protective barrier on the skin to reduce redness and help heal blemishes.
*Any changes or omissions to your home care regimen will be discussed with leading Montgomery County aesthetician Sarah Heller before you leave so you understand what’s safe to use after your treatment.
