Dermal Fillers 101

101 - Ovrview

Overview

Many signs of aging are the result of facial volume loss. We use dermal fillers to help restore volume beneath the dermis by lifting the skin away from folds, wrinkles, and hollowing. There are many types of dermal fillers, all used for different purposes, therefore, it is important to undergo a full evaluation by a board-certified dermatologist to ensure you achieve the best results. Good use of dermal fillers should be natural and virtually undetectable. With dermal fillers we do not want to change you, we want to enhance your best features!

101 - What to Expect

What to Expect

  • A needle is inserted under the skin to inject the filler into the desired area, with precautions taken to avoid discomfort or bruising as much as possible.
  • Our board-certified physician will move around the area and replenishing lost volume, sculpting the product to your features.
  • The dermal filler products have numbing medicine in them, and you will feel increasingly numb in the treatment area. This sensation makes the treatment more comfortable and will wear-off over the next couple of hours.
  • The filler results are immediate, however, you may experience some swelling in the treatment area, which will dissipate in the following days.
  • You can expect minimal downtime following the treatment, as there is typically no evidence you had the procedure done. However, it is important to note that whenever a needle is placed in the skin there is always a risk of a bruise, though we take all possible precautions to prevent this!
101 - PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Patients prone to bruising are encouraged to take precautions such as avoiding blood thinners. Also, adding an arnica supplementation prior to treatment may be recommended.
  • No other preparation is required.

FAQs

How long do dermal fillers last?

Typically, dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6 months and 2 years depending on the type of filler you go for and the severity of the lines, wrinkles, and loss of volume you are experiencing. During your initial consultation, Dr. Weshar will tell you which filler is best for your desired results and how long she expects these results to last.

Are dermal fillers safe and are there any risks or side effects?

Dermal fillers are considered to be extremely safe with little to no side effects. Some patients may experience bruising, swelling, and redness, however, this fades within a couple of hours of the procedure. Dr. Weishar will check that you do not have any known allergies before undertaking the treatment.

What is the best dermal filler?

The best dermal filler will depend entirely on your individual needs. During your initial consultation, Dr. Weishar will ask you a set of questions in order to create a treatment plan using the best dermal fillers to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

At what age should you get fillers?

Men and women above the age of 21 are candidates for dermal fillers. However, many patients wait until they start to see the first signs of aging before opting for this type of procedure.

Do fillers make your face look fat?

Yes, too much filler, especially to the mid-section of the face, can make your look puffy. Dr. Weishar aims to provide the most natural-looking results possible. Her goal is to enhance your best features rather than change the way you look.
