Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the active ingredient in the Restylane and Juvéderm families of fillers. HA fillers owe their success to their natural ability to attract water. Because HA is an ingredient found naturally in the human body, it integrates smoothly into the skin with minimal side effects. Most people experience only minor swelling, and the substance is harmlessly absorbed into the body over time. It provides long-lasting results as some of the hyaluronic acid is absorbed, leaving the remaining amount to retain its volume by binding to water, allowing it to remain nearly constant for the entire period. Restylane and Juvéderm both contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that renders the procedure nearly painless.
The Restylane family of fillers can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds, laugh lines, cheeks, orbital hollows, and temples. They can also be used in other fine to moderate wrinkles such as lipstick lines and marionette lines, or to enhance the fullness of your lips.
Since injections are non-invasive, patients can resume regularly scheduled activities immediately upon leaving our Montgomery County office. Restylane® injections are generally well tolerated by patients because the filler is formulated with lidocaine. Side effects, which are minimal and fade quickly, include swelling, bruising, irritation, nausea or headaches. After-care instructions and a follow-up appointment are provided to the patient before leaving our office.
Dr. Weishar determines the injection site(s) and administers the hyaluronic acid filler via a thin, sterile needle. Each procedure is complete in about 30 minutes. Finding a dermatologist with a unique focus on Restylane® injections and dermal fillers is key to safe and long-lasting injections.
Patients immediately notice increased volume after injections. Depending on the area that’s been treated, the benefits of Restylane® last between 6 months to a year. After a year individuals can undergo another series of injections.
The injectable works by delivering powerful doses of hyaluronic acid within the skin. This draws moisture to lax features, plumps skin and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles.
Dr. Margo Weishar is a double board-certified dermatologist with a specialized focus on cosmetic dermatology. Though dermal fillers are a common treatment, it’s vital to select a provider with credentials and experience for the best results from Restylane®. Thanks to her diligence and dedication to the field, Dr. Weishar has achieved Expert InjectorTM status, a unique distinction earned by less than 3% of physicians in the US. If you are interested in Restylane® injections, please contact our Montgomery County office to book an appointment.
