Chemical Peels in Montgomery County

Chemical peeling is one of the original methods of revitalizing the skin. Chemical peels, also known as chemical resurfacing, are targeted for the treatment of wrinkles, acne, photoaging (from sun damage), scarring, pre-cancerous lesions, and discoloration such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or melasma. Chemical peels promote the growth of new skin with an improved appearance.

At Springhouse Dermatology, Dr. Margo Weishar, a double board-certified dermatologist, offers chemical peels in Montgomery County to patients wanting to achieve a more uniform and youthful skin tone. All of the chemical peels she provides are chosen specifically to meet your individual needs. For more information or to book a consultation, contact our office today!

Chemical Peels 101

101 - Ovrview

Overview

There is a wide range of chemical peels from very light peels to medium depth which will require you to have some days of feeling tight/dry and peeling can range from slight peeling around the mouth to all over the face for up to a week. More aggressive/very deep chemical peels are performed by the Doctor. Chemical peels are often blends of acids that are used to address and improve many different skin conditions such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation, large pores or congestion in the pores, oiliness or dryness, dull or lackluster skin. A series of treatments is often recommended spaced 4-6 weeks apart but peels can also be done a couple of times of year to improve overall skin health.

101 - What to Expect

What to Expect

  • The skin will be thoroughly cleansed with a double or triple cleanse. The skin will be prepped with a degreasing solution. Dermaplaning can be performed as an add on service prior to the chemical to enhance the efficacy of the peel. A blended peel solution is chosen based on the patients’ concerns and the amount of “downtime” the patient is willing to tolerate. Peels are left on the skin for longer or more passes can be done, based on what the patient is looking to achieve. Once the peel is completely neutralized a calming serum and mask are applied to the skin followed by moisturizer, SPF, and lip treatment serum.
101 - PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • If you are using Retin-A or Tretinoin you may want to stop using 1-2 nights prior to your treatment.
  • Ideally, we want you on a prescribed skin care regimen to prep the skin for 3-4 weeks prior to your treatment.

Refresh Your Appearance

When it comes to chemical peels, their popularity remains, even in today’s world of high tech lasers, because they produce great results with little downtime and allow you to maintain your skin in between other treatments. Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin which penetrates to a depth as determined by Dr. Weishar.

Different depth peels produce different results from a mild redness without any outward signs of peeling to a more obvious few days of shedding skin. Dr. Weishar will determine which peel meets your needs and will discuss your options with you to determine the best treatment plan. She will take into account your treatment goals, lifestyle, whether you can plan for any downtime, and how chemical peeling fits into other treatments you may be having.

Customized Chemical Peels

Springhouse Dermatology offers light chemical peels as well as medium depth peels. Light peels have little to no downtime and are usually done as a series to obtain the best results. These peels can be used for skin refreshing, treating active acne, brightening the complexion, and reducing the appearance of pores. Medium depth peels require some social downtime as you will see active peeling of the skin. However, you will achieve more impressive results in less time.

Both light and medium depth peels can be used on the face as well as the body. During your consultation, our team will help you determine which peel is best for your needs. We will undertake a full skin analysis to ensure that the peel you choose helps you reach your aesthetic goals. To find out more or to book an appointment, contact our office today!

FAQ

How long does a chemical peel last?

The results you achieve through your chemical peel will depend on the type of peel you opt for and the condition of your skin. Typically, peeling lasts 3 to 5 days and results can last months depending on the individual patient.

Is a chemical peel painful?

During your chemical peel, you may experience a slight burning sensation. This typically lasts 5 to 10 minutes and is followed by a light stinging sensation. Deeper peels may cause more discomfort, however, this should subside within a few hours. We recommend patients use cool compresses on the skin to ease the stinging.

Do chemical peels make you look younger?

Chemical peels have been used to treat the early signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. These tried and tested peels provide patients with a brighter and more even complexion – the ultimate antidote for aging skin.

Does a chemical peel get rid of wrinkles?

Chemical peels cause the new skin to heal and grow, making it a great choice for those wanting to remove acne scars, age spots, and of course, wrinkles. Patients often experience smoother, younger-looking skin within just a couple of days of their peel.

Can you wear makeup after a chemical peel?

We recommend you avoid wearing makeup for a period of time after your chemical peel as this may irritate the skin and cause discomfort. Dr. Weishar will walk you through your post-treatment guidelines prior to your procedure so that you can make a quick recovery.
